Wisconsin loses 800 private-sector jobs
For the third straight month, Wisconsin’s unemployment rate grew. Last month’s unemployment data, released today, showed a net loss of 2,300 non-farm jobs. This trend further shows that the “race to the bottom” economic policies of Gov. Scott Walker do not attract, or keep, jobs in state. Scott Walker has a long way to go to reach the 250,000 jobs he promised to create by 2015.
Here’s a rundown of why:
Since January, Walker has done the following to “create” jobs:
- give money to rich corporations already sitting on record profits
- give tax breaks to rich CEOs
- push for millions in bonds to give even more money to investors
- hope these policies create jobs – but require zero accountability
- set no timelines or deadlines for job creation
So far, since his inauguration:
- 45,192 people lost their jobs in mass layoffs
- Unemployment has risen from 7.4% to 7.9%
- Wisconsin catapulted to second-highest rate of initial unemployment claims in the nation
- 13,527 people have been laid off for 31 days or longer
- He’s killed high-speed rail projects that cost 8,491 construction and rail car-related jobs
Wisconsin continues to slide deeper into recession and Walker’s job-killing policies are pushing it along. These policies haven’t worked and never will.

[...] Shocking! Scott Walker’s all out war on workers hasn’t helped lower Wisconsin’s unemployment rate, which rose in August. [...]
